How to Pick Your Dream Wedding Venue

How to pick your dream wedding venue! First, what makes me a proper resource for this type of question? Well, 2019 will mark my 9th year of wedding planning, and we’ll have our 100th wedding in March! WOW! Let’s dive in!

What is your wedding budget?

I know. You hate this question. Guess what? We hate asking it. But, in order to be realistic about your venue, vendors, and overall design, we need to know.

What is your guest count?

100? 200? 300+? Not all venues are created equal when it comes to space. Your budget and guest list will dictate your venue choice. You can expect to pay anywhere from 40-60% of your budget on the venue.

What is your overall aesthetic?

Are you into barns? Resorts? Beaches? Vineyards? San Luis Obispo County has almost every type of venue you can think of, and then some. Most of California is beautiful all year long, and it makes for a great wedding destination.

Do you want a weekend long event?

You’ll want to check out venues that you can rent for the weekend. You’ll get more bang for your buck if you reserve a venue that allows you to host your rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and Sunday brunch. Having to piece out each different event in different locations can not only cost you more money, but it can cost you your sanity and feel rushed.

Be on the lookout for venues that include rentals.

Maybe the chairs don’t match your aesthetic, but don’t let that change your mind. If they include tables that can be covered in linens, consider that a blank canvas for you to paint upon. You can rent different chairs from $3-$15/chair.
